Shippers’ Council , Police Partnership To End Port Operational Delays , Boost Security

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and Ports Authority Police (Western) Command are deepening ties to enhance port security and efficiency, highlighted by a courtesy visit from Commissioner of Police CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, psc, mnips, to the NSC headquarters in Lagos.

In response to the visit, NSC Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer Dr. Pius Akutah emphasized the inevitability of collaboration, as both institutions operate in the same port ecosystem.

He called for strengthened intelligence sharing, structured joint training programs, and deeper stakeholder engagement to drive seamless operations.

Dr. Akutah specifically raised alarms over the arrest of already cleared containers at ports, urging better coordination to curb disruptions, reduce cargo dwell times, and eliminate unnecessary delays.

He advocated reviewing police alert procedures and tackling insecurity head-on within port environments.

The NSC leader affirmed that this renewed partnership directly supports the Council’s mandate to foster efficiency, transparency, and smooth cargo movement across Nigeria’s ports.

CP Agbaminoja, in turn, pledged proactive support, aligning police efforts with NSC goals for secure trade facilitation and infrastructure protection.

Speaking to Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer Dr. Akutah Pius, alongside directors and senior staff, she described the engagement as both symbolic and tactical—designed to build deeper collaboration and mutual operational insight.

During the visit, CP Agbaminoja hailed the NSC as a cornerstone for regulating, facilitating, and safeguarding Nigeria’s shipping and port interests.

The Commissioner emphasized how the NSC’s role as Port Economic Regulator dovetails with the Police Command’s duties in securing trade, cargo flow, and vital infrastructure.
