Shippers’ Council , Maritime Police Facilitate Release Of 36 Containers In One Month

In continuation of inter – agencies collaboration for the maritime industry, the Nigeria Police Force, Maritime Command, and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council have facilitated the release of 36 containers to different consignees.

the release of containers to the shippers.

Addressing some of the consignees who were directed by Maritime Police Command to come for clearance from the Council, Head, Complaints Unit, Dr. Bashir Ambi said, ” On behalf of the Executive Secretary/CEO, Akutah Pius Ukeyima, we welcomed you to the
Council.

” NSC received a letter from the Maritime Police Command titled “Investigation Activities:Case of Conspiracy, Forgery, and Economic Sabotage,” request to release Containers”.

According to an in house publication of the Council, Complaints Newsletter , Dr. Ambi informed the meeting where the affected Consignees and their agents in attendance urged them to return their empties after taken delivery.

“We will send a letter and a mail immediately to effect the release. You may recall that the Police Command requested for the Containers to be blocked recently,” Ambi stated.

He noted that “The Containers released
are: MSKU-5286377, MSKU-
8585221, MRKU – 6385109, MRKU-
8166748, MRSU-0054370 & MRKU-
4964565. You are expected to take
delivery immediately at the APM
Terminals after fulfilling all.

“The units released contained cargoes such as supermarket items, used car engines, vehicles, Motorcycles, spare parts and many others.

The consignees and their agents expressed satisfaction for Nigerian Shippers Council’s fair, prompt and free requirements for the 36 containers release..

Recall that the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Akutah Pius Ukeyima expressed the Council’s commitment to promoting the efficiency of the nation’s maritime sector.

Dr. Akutah made this declaration when he received a team from Maritime Police Command Headquarters, led by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Garba Yusuf recently in Lagos.

He called on the Maritime Police to work closely with the NSC Enforcement Unit to tackle irregularities at the ports, including attacks on ships, criminal activities on port access roads, and the illegal interception of containers along port corridors.

The Council leader also vowed to expose cases of unauthorized container seizures through media reports, urging the AIG to take action against those involved.

AIG Garba Yusuf assured the NSC of the Maritime Police’s commitment to cooperation. He encouraged the Council to report any illegal activities involving police officers, emphasizing that effective policing requires strong community support.

The meeting reinforced the shared vision of both agencies in ensuring a secure, efficient, and economically viable maritime sector for Nigeria.
