Shippers Council Boss Enjoins Cooperative Society To Adopt Unique Worthy Heritage

The Chief Executive Officer and Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barrister Hassan Bello has enjoined the council’s staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited to bequeath a unique and worthy heritage style with a vision that should encompass not only economic, but social and environmental dimensions.

Bello gave the advice on Thursday in Lagos at the just concluded 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Society .

Bello who was represented by the Director, Special Duties,Mrs Adaku Okam spoke via virtual conference.

He stated that the Cooperative has grown to be a responsible, participative with transparent leadership qualities which in turn would help to broaden the developmental experiences of the Cooperative society.

 

Bello reiterated that “:Today, the Cooperative society faves the future with energy and maturity. I enjoin you to have a vision that encompass not only economic but social and environmental dimensions.

“This will help broaden the developmental experiences of the Cooperative society as well as constitute and bequeath a unique and worthy heritage.

According to him, “I have also noted your impressive financial performance matrix for the year, I urge you to build further on it.

The Council’s boss further called on the leases of the Cooperative society to sustain the tempo and continue to imbibe in specific value and principles required to be innovative in approach.

Also speaking to newsmen on the sideline, President of the Cooperative, Mr. Bashir Ambi pointed out that the financial year was impressive with steady growth of resources.

Ambi said despite the pandemic, members of the society were able to attend via social media platforms and physical distancing in line with the Presidential Task force directives.

He described the meeting as democratic and transparent in approach.

He maintained that discipline had been the source of revenue growth adding that the newly educational scheme was aimed to cater for members .

The President assured that the Cooperative would continue to lend support to members for legitimate loan applications.

Giving a background check on some of empowerment project under his watch, he said“Within this financial year, we have processed, approved and paid the sum of One hundred and fifty four million, live hundred and seventy five thousand, two hundred and fifty naira (N 154, 575,250.00) only as children education loan to legitimate applicants.”

He disclosed that the Cooperative also recorded 60.8% increase in finances which grew to N34,185,389.67 up from N21,251,205.17 in 2018.

“As at today, the Cooperative is financially healthy. Our funds are carefully fixed in accordance with the bye-laws. We don’t have inert fund and no member owes the society above the legitimate credit limit,” the President said.

He also appreciated the leadership of the Nigerian Shippers Council for the support on the sustainability of the society.
