Senates Task Minister Of Works To Urgently Reconstruct Failed  Benin-Auchi-Okene Road

The  Senates have moved a motion for the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently reconstruct the failed portions of Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi-Okene roads and the Benin-Sapele and Ewu-Uromi-Agbor roads respectively.

This motion was moved on Wednesday in Abuja by the trio of Senator Clifford Odia, Senator Matthew Urhoghide and Senator Francis Alimikhena.

They tasked the Minister of Works, Mr. Raji Babatunde Fashola to come up with a plan to settle all lingering Issues bordering on the dualisation of the roads with contractors and also review the terms and conditions of the contract to meet current realities of inflation.

According to them, the minister should provide adequate funding sufficient to complete the reconstruction of these roads.

Speaking at the proceedings of the Nigerian Senates , Wednesday 28th September, 2022, Senator Francis Alimikhena  said the aforementioned roads have become a running decimal in this chamber , saying that the roads are key to network  South-South to Abuja.

The lawmaker said:“I rise to support this motion moved by Senator Clifford Odia. These roads have become a running decimal in this chamber and this is a major road linking South-South to Abuja. It is my suggestion that a palliative measure be put in place as our people are suffering.”

On insecurity, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha cited Order 43 to inform the Senate on bandits attack on his Senatorial District resulting to loss of about 100 lives.

Bwacha noted that; “I commend the military despite that they have been over stretched and I want to encourage them to keep on the fight as we are beginning to see results in the war against insurgency.”

“Let me join you in commending the military. The military has been recording a lot of successes and we are solidly behind them not only in prayers but whatever we can legislatively intervene.” – Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Senate observed a minute silence in honour of the lives lost.
