Seafarers’ Union Suspends Planned Industrial Action , Commends Management Of Coy For Timely Intervention

Satisfied with the agreements reached by both parties, the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA) has suspended its planned industrial action against Atlanta Crew Management  (ACM).

DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA had reported that the NMNOWTSSA  threatened Industrial actions against the  maritime company over failure to respond to series of demands.

The union had frowned at the disparity by management of the company on payment of Nigerian seafarers against foreigners lamenting that ACM can better the situation by  urgent intervention in mitigating this devastating situation officers onboard its fleets found  themselves.

But in a statement made available to our correspondent over the weekend , the seafaring union, a Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliate,  commended management of the company for the timely intervention in resolving the dispute.

According to a letter addressed to the Managing Director, Tetra Maritime Solution Offshore Limited, a copy made available to DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA and signed by the Secretary General of NMNOWTSSA, Comrade John Okpono Aleakhue affirmed that the union has suspended the planned strike action against the maritime firm.

The Scribe stated that the demands as requested by the union from the company have been provided to the affected seafarers aboard their vessels adding that NMNOWTSSA and the company will continue to work in industrial harmony moving forward.

The letter of appreciation to management further applauded the company for the kind gesture for the fuel subsidy removal allowance for seafarers’ under its employment adding that”We wish such is extended to the leadership of our great association in one off term.”

“However, we are not unmindful of the global economy challenges that befall on both the private and public organizations. As partners in progress and peace loving association, we would like the management to look into our request during our meeting holistically and call for a meeting to harmonise the issue raised .

“Our great association appreciate your management for the listen ear granted to us. It is also worthy to express our gratitude to the management for the approved allowance for removal allowance of fuel subsidy. We want to use this medium to reiterate our earlier position that we are partners in progress and reassured your management of our unalloyed cooperation”, Comrade Aleakhue stated.
