Seafarers Union Expresses Grief Over Demise Of Comrade Ayo Ohiwereh

The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA) has expressed sadness over the death of consultant to International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) , Comrade Ayo Ohiwereh.

Ohiwereh died in Lagos on Friday after a brief illness.

According to a statement on Monday by the Seafarers Union, Comrade Ayo will dearly be missed for his vast experience and contributions to maritime sector .

Apparently, the National President, NMNOWTSSA, Engr. Bob Joseph Yousuo, on behalf the seafarers Union expressed grief over the death of the ITF veteran, saying that the union will miss the expertise of the late Comrade.

The statement added that “Our National President, Chief Engr. Bob Joseph Yousuo, The Secretary General, National Executives, Staff and the entire members of our great Association condole with International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and its affiliates for the sudden demise of our dear Brother, Uncle Father, and grandfather, Comrade Ayo Ohiwereh who passed unto glory on Friday the 21st February, 2025.

“Comrade Ayo until his death was the ITF Maritime Operation Officer. He was not just a good friend to our great Association, but a dear brother who fought tirelessly for the good welfare and working conditions of Seafarers both Locally and Internationally.

“He always campaign for the growth and advancement of Nigerian Seafarers and our Association. He was a motivator, adviser and role model who stood for truth always and wishes the best for our Association.

“Comrade Ayo will dearly be missed for his vast experience and contributions to Maritime Sector at large.

“We pray that God Almighty will give his immediate family, loved ones and the ITF families the fortitude to bear this great loss while i pray that God will forgive all his shortcomings and grant his soul eternal rest, amen”, the statement noted.
