SEAFARERS DAY CELEBRATION : MWUN Harps On Maritime Institutions Upgrading To Meet International Standard

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has harped on the need for the federal government to upgrade both private and public institutions in furtherance to meet international standard.

 

President General of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) affiliate union disclosed this in commemoration of the World Seafarers Day Celebration held in Lagos on Saturday.

 

Adeyanju expressed worries over continuousย denial of the Certificate of Competency (CoC) by certain flag states which limits the application of Nigerianย  seafaringย  other clime urgingย government and its responsible agenciesย  to gear up and work towards the certificate acceptability in the global space.

According to him, “Of course all is not rosy yet as we continue to face obstacles which threaten to impair the seafarers capacity to reach its potential.

“We find it expedient at this time to announce our worry at theย  continued denial of our certificate of competency by certain flag states which limits the application of our seafaring competency in other clime we therefore posit that government and its responsible agency pull up to gear up our acceptance in the global space.

 

 

“We also seize this opportunity to call on government to put machinery on ground to strengthen our maritime training institution to bring them to par with global standards.

 

“As we salute seafarers today, we raise our voice in adoration and appreciation.ย  Ahoy seafarers, your voyage has not been in vain.
