Seafarer Burnt To Death Aboard Tourist Vessel, MV ‘Atlantic Cruise

A devastating fire erupted on the tourist vessel MV Atlantic Cruise on December 27, 2025, claiming the life of one crew member who burned to death while asleep in his cabin.

The blaze broke out around 7:00 AM as the ship neared the Nuniachhara jetty in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, while heading to Saint Martin’s Island.

Fortunately, no tourists were on board, avoiding harm to about 200 passengers waiting nearby.

The fire, believed to stem from an electrical short circuit in the engine room, quickly spread as the vessel berthed at the Bakkhali River jetty.

Nur Kamal, a 35-year-old crew member fresh off his night shift, was the sole fatality, discovered burnt in his cabin.

Fire services and the Coast Guard swiftly extinguished the flames. Locals and emergency teams rescued 15 crew members alive, with no further casualties after thorough searches. Alternative vessels later ferried the waiting tourists to Saint Martin’s Island. An investigation into the exact cause continues.
