SAFETY: Ondo State Procures 1500 Life Jackets For Water Users,As NIWA Engages Security Agencies In C’River

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has gotten a boost from the Ondo State government in its quest to make the Inland Waterways safer for all.

This happened when the Governor of Ondo State Hon. Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Amb. Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Pipeline Surveillance and Inland Waterways Security, Engr. Alore Omosuyi, officially launched the Operation Safe Ondo Waters and Waterways Insurance Scheme.

The initiative aims to promote safety, security, and sustainable economic development along Ondo State’s waterways.

As part of the Initiative, the state Government Procured 1,500 life jackets which will be distributed to water users.

Meanwhile, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) had an engagement with some Federal, State and security agencies in Calabar, Cross River state.

The Area Manager of NIWA Calabar Area office Engr. Stanley Onouha stated that the meeting was aimed at ensuring safety of boat operations on our Inland waterways by collaborating with other agencies.

He also stated that the ultimate objective of the synergy with important stakeholders is to prevent boat mishap.

Some of the stakeholders engaged were; Director General, Cross River state Emergency Management Agency,  Commander Nigerian Navy Ship Victoria (NNS Victoria), the leadership of the local fishermen association, Nigerian Shippers Council and also the newly Inaugurated NIWA Emergency Response Team in charge of Cross River and Ebonyi states.
