SAFETY: NPA Inaugurates 11-Man Emergency Response Team

Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, (NPA) has inaugurated an eleven member Emergency Response Team at it’s corporate headquarters, Marina, Lagos.

Adams Jatto , General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications , NPA who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said the team was set up for strategic and immediate rapid response in case of emergencies at the authority’s headquarters and indeed the port locations.

At the unveiling, Managing Director, NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, Mr. Onari Brown was quoted appealing , that members should be ready to put themselves at the frontline of emergency response at the Marina headquarters, at all times.

Furthermore, the Managing Director, NPA said that every head of departments is a constituent part of this emergency response team who have specific roles to play during the emergency.

She therefore asked that respective officers must have sense of responsibility to duty and ensure effective collaborations at such delicate periods.

Similarly, she said two teams shall be constituted at the Port levels vis- a- vis Port Emergency Management Team (PEMT) and Port Emergency Response Team (PERT) and that details of their membership and modus shall be duly communicated to all the Port locations.

“These committee is expected to amongst other things respond proactively during work place emergencies covering fire, explosion incidents, medical emergencies (like Ebola, Lassa fever, Covid-19 etc.), public safety threat, armed robbery and terrorism threat, marine vessel collision in the Port, accidental release of hazardous substances and natural disasters like flood or storm.
