REVENUE DRIVE: Customs Zone A Nets N939 Billion Between January – June 2023
The Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, Nigeria Customs Service, Assistant Comptroller-General, ACG Okun Festus, has stated that commands and formations under his watch generated a total revenue of N939 billion between January and June 2023.
Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service , comprises commands and formations under the south western region of the country.
Okun said in the year 2022, the Zone generated a total revenue of about N2. 1trillion which represents 80% of total revenue of N2.6 trillion generated for the period under review
The Coordinator disclosed this in his welcome address at an interactive session in Lagos .
He informed the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi at the parley that “With this, we are sure of attaining the threshold of not less than eighty per cent (80%) of the nationally generated revenue at the end of the year, ”
Commands and formations under Zone A include: Apapa Area 1 , Tin Can Island Port, Lilypond, KiriKiri Lighter Terminal, Seme, Airport MM1 and MM2, Ogun 1 and Ogun 2, Lekki Free Zone, Oyo/Osun, Ekiti, Kwara, Western Marine , Federal Operations Unit, etc.
Speaking also , the CG of customs disclosed plans to relocate the zonal office to a more befitting headquarters.
Adeniyi said, “The Zonal office is known for how it is strategically located, its organisational structure and its hierarchy.
“After staying in this location for about 48 years, perhaps it is time to relocate this structure to a more befitting one and build a modern Zonal office. We want to bring back the power of the Zone.
“We need a zone that is effective, well-designed, well located and can handle the new responsibilities that will be put on them. We assure all stakeholders that the movement and relocation will not affect service delivery.”
Adeniyi added that proactive measures have been taken to strengthen the structure of the Zone as a team will be set up to look at its current mandate and responsibilities previously handled by the Zone but have been shifted to the commands or the Service headquarters will be reinstalled.
