REGULATION VIOLATION: Lagos Shutdown Lounges, Nightclubs In Lekki, V.I, Ikoyi

The Lagos State Government has sealed defaulting lounges and nightclubs to ensure the public safety of visitors to such facilities that violated regulations.

 

The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC), Mr. Lanre Mojola, disclosed the development recently, stating that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is passionate about the safety of lives and property of Lagosians.

 

He explained that the clampdown is part of the State government’s ongoing Zero Accident Campaign (ZAC), noting that some facilities within Lekki and Victoria Island were sealed over the weekend because owners of the establishments disregarded directives on safety regulations.

 

 

“These facilities are operating without fire extinguishers, clearly marked exit routes, lack of safety signage, poor food hygiene and dirty environment. Other safety infractions identified include the non-regularisation of their Safety Compliance Certificate and failure to register with the Commission through its www.lasgsafetyreg.com portal”, he stated

 

 

Mojola maintained that the enforcement exercise will be extended to other parts of the State, enjoining owners and operators of such facilities to seek a safety-first policy and adopt best practices in their operations in a bid to ensure the safety and well-being of their staff as well as other members of the public.

 

 

“The Zero Accident Campaign of the State Government is geared towards drastically reducing accidents that can result in injury, fatalities, damages that might lead to lawsuits and disrepute for the owners and operators”,  the DG asserted.

 

He declared that the Commission has also commenced its regular engagement, training and sensitisation sessions with all stakeholders across socio-economic domains and will continue to spread the message of safety first to protect and preserve the lives of Lagosians.

 

 

The Director-General, therefore, urged business owners to adhere strictly to stipulated safety standards in order to improve vigilance on potential risks within their facilities and establishments.
