PVC COLLECTION: LASG Says No Public Holiday Has Been Declared

….Celebrates  World Human Rights Day

 

 

 

 

Following the extension of the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Lagos State Government has directed Public Servants who are yet to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) from designated INEC Centres to do so before the deadline date of Sunday, 29th January, 2023.

 

A circular signed by the State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said the decision was taken to ensure that workers perform their civic responsibility to vote.

 

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved a day off for different sets of Public Servants for the collection of their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) from their respective Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas on designated days.

 

According to the circular, Tuesday, 24th January, 2023 is designated for Public Servants on Grade Levels 01, 03, 07 & 15; Wednesday, 25th January 2023 for Public Servants on Grade Levels 02, 04, 08 & 13; Thursday, 26th January, 2023 for Public Servants on Grade Levels 05, 09, 12 & 17 and Friday, 27th January, 2023 is for Public Servants on Grade Levels 06, 10, 14 & 16.

 

While enjoining Accounting Officers to excuse their officers in the respective Grade Levels on the specified days, the Head of Service maintained that no Public Holiday has been declared for the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards by the Lagos State Government.

 

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has said that it will not relent in its effort to protect human dignity, promote freedom and ensure justice for all in the State.

 

The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Ms. Titilayo Shitta-Bey stated this at an event organised by the government to mark World Human Rights Day 2022, with the theme: “Dignity, Freedom and Justice For All”, held on Wednesday at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa.

 

Shitta-Bey, who noted that the event could not hold on December 10, 2022, the designated day, due to the early vacation of schools, added that the Ministry of Justice is determined to continue to sensitise the public about their fundamental human rights through its various agencies.

 

The Solicitor-General said, “As World Human Rights Day is been commemorated today in the State, we as a State would ensure that, through drama presentation and debates among Primary, Junior and Secondary School students in Lagos State, we are able to pass messages as to the right of human beings, how those rights are protected and how infractions are addressed”.

 

The Chief Registrar of Lagos State High Court, Mr. T.A Elias, in his presentation said, “All children, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances, have the right to be protected, nurtured and free from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect, maltreatment and exploitation as set out in the Child Rights Law”.

 

“The Judiciary respects and supports the right of every child and collaborates with all relevant stakeholders to safeguard the right of the child, ensure prevention of a breach of these rights and where appropriate impose sanction on any person found to have violated any of these rights”, he stated.

 

The Director, Directorate of Citizens Rights, Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi, while expressing appreciation to the students and other personalities for supporting the government on the journey to protect Human Rights, implored them to continue being good citizens and ambassadors of Human Rights.

 

She also urged the students and other participants not only to report issues of human rights abuse that happen to them to the Directorate of Citizens Rights but also those that happen to their friends and families in order to stem the tide of abuses in the State.
