PTML Gets Union Commendation Over Payment Of Dockworkers Retirement Benefits
The Management of Ports & Terminal Multi services Limited (PTML) Tin Can Island Port, Apapa recently paid all 74 aged disengaged dockworkers wages and benefits, while 10 of the deceased Dockworkers were also paid through their next of Kins, all numbering 84.
According to a statement on Thursday, the payment exercise was made under the supervision of Comrade Bello Abubakir (Vice President General who represented the President -General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju and Comrade Ibrahim Ohize, President, Dockworkers Branch of the MWUN and other officials of the Union.
Prince Adeyanju was quoted saying that other terminal operators should emulate PTML for the unprecedented gesture for retired workers.

Adeyanju expressed satisfaction over the package put in place by the port concessionaire .
The President General noted that “Since inception of the terminal, this is the very first time that PTML will be applying the minimum salary standard (NJIC) to the fullest.
“They even surpass what was recommended in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the payment of dockworkers retirees in its terminal and it’s worthy of emulation by other terminals who have not done theirs and advised that they should follow suite.
The foremost Maritime Labour leader, Dr. Adeyanju, commended management of PTML for taking such laudable bold step to putting smiles on the faces of both the aged retirees and the family of the deceased who got the entitlements of their departed beloved ones.
