PROFILE : Yekini Ayoku Assumes Duty As 17th AIG , Maritime Police  Command Lagos

The Assistant Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force, AIG Yekini Ayoku has officially assumed duty as the 17th AIG , Maritime Police  Command in Lagos.

The IGP  Usman Alkali Baba ordered the posting of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Yekini Adio Ayoku, to take charge as AIG Maritime comprising of Port Authority Police, eastern (Port Harcourt) and western (Apapa) commands, National Inland Waterways Police Command and the Marine Police section.

According to a statement made available to our correspondent weekend, while profiling the Police top brass, the AIG hails from Ilorin East L.G.A. Kwara state. He holds B.Sc. (Second class upper) from the prestigious University of Ilorin in 1986, before his appointment into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd March 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police trained at Police Academy Annex Kaduna.

He has held several operational, investigative and administrative positions since his passing out from the police academy and commissioning as an officer in October in October, 1991. His first posting was to Abia State Police Command where he served in various capacities including:

– Divisional Crime Officer DCO, Central Police Station Umuahia and Aba.

– Area Crime Officer, Area Command, Aba

– Divisional Police Officer DPO, Abriba

– Principal Staff Officer PSO, to the then CP Abia state police command; and

– Officer in charge, Anti – Vice section, state criminal investigation department SCID, Umuahia

In 1999, he was mobilized into the Police Mobile Force PMF and deployed to the Presidential Villa, Abuja as second in command 24 PMF squadron, Presidential Guard and Escort and later the Commanding Officer of the said squadron. Other appointments held are:

– Member of Nigeria Police Contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo,

– Second in command, Inspector General of Police IGP monitoring unit, Force headquarters, Abuja,

– Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP, SCIID Panti, Yaba, Lagos,

– Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration, Nassarawa State Police Command,

– Area Commander, Area N, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos,

– Assistant Commissioner of Police, State CIID, Akure, Ondo State Police Command,

– Director, Central Planning and Training Unit, Police Staff College, Jos,

– Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP, Department of Finance and Administration DFA/ second in command Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi State Police Commands respectively,

– He also served in the same capacity at Zone 6 Police Headquarters, Calabar.

 

Upon his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police in 2020, he was nominated to attend the senior executive course 43, 2021 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS, Kuru, Jos. On successful completion of the course, he was posted as the Commissioner of Police, Department of Logistics and Supply DLS, Force Headquarters from where he was deployed as the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Police Command with effect from 6th April, 2022 to 27th March 2023.

AIG Yekini Adio Ayoku, psc(+), mni was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police on 27th March, 2023 by the Police Service Commission, on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police and subsequently posted as the AIG in charge of Maritime command, Lagos.

AIG Yekini Adio Ayoku has attended many other professional, capacity building courses and workshops, notably:

-Leadership and Citizenship training,

– Squadron commanders’ combat operation course,

– promotion courses

– Strategic leadership and command course, as well as the higher and result oriented

– Management course of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria ASCON, Badagry, Lagos.

 

AIG Ayoku is a recipient of the Inspector General of Police Sword of Honour as the Best All Round Cadet Officer of ASP Course 16/90 Police Academy Annex, Kaduna. He was also privileged to be decorated with United Nations Medal for Service in Kosovo.

 

 

AIG Ayoku is a distinguished member of the prestigious National Institute and a functional member of the Association of Chiefs of Police IACP.

 

AIG Ayoku is happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies are reading, traveling, listening to music, watching  and engaging in body fitness exercise.

 

AIG Ayoku, knowing the enomity of the task ahead of him in ensuring safe and secured Maritime environment, immediately had meeting with his new management team and sectional heads in the command to brief him on the state of security in the jurisdiction, the AIG equally tasked officers and men of the command to get themselves ready for the task ahead as there is no room for laxity under his watch.

 

He beckoned on the stakeholders, operators and the users of the maritime environment to join hands with his administration, as the task is not a one-man’s show, he also called for synergy amongst all the security agencies in the state as his doors remain always open to all and sundry in his quest to reduce violent crime and criminalities to the barest minimum .
