Ports Authority Police Command Leads Sensitization Campaign On Environmental Clean Up

In a significant step towards promoting environmental responsibility and public health, officers of the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command undertook a comprehensive sensitization campaign on environmental clean-up exercise across the port environment on Saturday.

The sensitization campaign included the distribution of informative materials on the dangers of pollution, the benefits of recycling, and the proper disposal of waste.

Officers also engaged directly with traders, transporters, and other port users, urging them to adopt eco-friendly practices.

Following the awareness drive, officers of the command, joined by volunteers and port operators, conducted a large-scale clean-up exercise across key areas, including port terminals and access roads. The effort resulted in the removal of significant volumes of waste and debris, highlighting the urgent need for sustained cleanliness efforts.

According to a statement on Saturday, CP Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun for the initiative while encouraging port users to engage in regular clean-up activities to foster a culture of environmental consciousness within and around the western ports.

As part of the week long activities, sequel to a proactive move to strengthen security and raise awareness among port stakeholders, officers and men of the Port Authority Police (Western) Command conducted a Security Sensitization Walk across critical zones within the port environment as part of activities to commemorate the 2025 edition on Friday.

The initiative aimed to promote vigilance, enhance collaboration, and reinforce adherence to established security protocols within the port.

Starting from the Apapa Wharf main gate, the sensitization team moved through Creek Road, visiting operational areas, engaging with workers, inspecting facilities, and distributing informational materials on safety, emergency procedures, and crime prevention.
The walkathon is to remind all of the importance of staying alert, reporting suspicious activity, and complying with safety guidelines.”

The walk which terminated at Tin can island port, also served as a platform to educate stakeholders on the current security trends, fostering open communication and trust between the police and port users.

CP Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola, while reaffirming the commitment of the Command to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s maritime gateway, called on all stakeholders to continue supporting the efforts of the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun to protect critical infrastructure and trade routes.
