Port Police Commissioner Describes Lagos Ports As Strategic To Government Revenue Drive

The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command Lagos, CP Olarewaju Olarenwaju Ishola on Wednesday, 15th May 2024 described the Lagos Ports Complex (LPC) the nation’s premier seaport as strategic to revenue drive for the government.

The commissioner disclosed this white receiving the new Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Port Command BO Olomu, who was on a familiarization visit to the Police Command.

According to a statement by ASP Isaac Hundeyin, Police Public Relations Officer, Port Authority Police Western Command, the Commissioner of Police, in his response, welcomed the CAC and his retinue to the Command headquarters,congratulated the CAC on his recent appointment, noting that the Apapa Area command is strategic to the nation’s economy as the port premises serve as a critical national infrastructure.

CP Ishola stressed the need for proactive policing to ensure maximum protection of port facilities and maintain public safety.

Earlier , the Customs Area Controller (CAC), noted that the Nigeria Customs Service has always received support from the Nigeria Police Force, as there must be security, tranquility, and stability for the Nigeria Customs Service to generate revenue for the Federal government.

The CAC appreciated the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command for always providing maximum security for the Nigeria Customs Service to achieve its mandate of trade facilitation and revenue generation while reiterating his commitment to ensure the existing interagency collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service is strengthened and sustained.

In his concluding remarks, the CAC noted that both agencies must leverage good relationships with relevant stakeholders to foster a secure and enabling environment for businesses to thrive, as the Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service under his watch will leverage intelligence gathering to improve on its mandate.

Recall that the port police received the Controller,Tin Can Island Command, Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Dera Nnadi as part of inter agency collaboration to securing port facilities.
