PORT OPERATIONS: NPA Workers Decry Poor Illumination,  Internet  Network Failure At TCIPC

Workers of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA has decried the lack of adequate electricity supply at Tin Can Island Port Complex TICPC and  incessant internet network failure  saying  poor telecommunication service contributes to some of the setback faced by the busiest port.

The workers also lamented that the port needs proper illumination which in turn hampers efficient port operations.

It was gathered that monies earmarked from management of NPA to supply electricity annually at TCIPC has failed to yield the required distribution of power to the port

It was also learnt that a total of N32m was spent on electricity supply at Tin can Island Ports out of the total allocation disbursed by management annually.

According to a statement joint signed by Nigerian Ports Senior Staff Association (NPASSA) Tin Can Island Port Zone and Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN),Tin Can Island Port District respectively recently, noted that the illumination of the port needs urgent attention for security reasons.

The statement pointed out that the port allocation is not enough to run its activities due to the peculiarity nature as regards vehicular and human traffic .

The unions reiterated that issues bothering on human and traffic  control should be the priority of management to tackle.

” The port is being faced with multiple entry points which allows influx of unauthorized persons which constitute security threats.”

The statement also called on management to expedite action in the control of human traffic adding that despite the progress recorded under the new management, there was need to improve on the successes recorded.
