Port Authority, Railways Commissioners Of Police Affirm Commitment To Secure Govt Assets

The Western Port Authority Police Command and Railway Command of the Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed strong commitment to secure government assets as part of efforts to promote effective inter-modal system of transportation.

 

Commissioner of Police in charge of Western Port Authority, Mr. Jonathan Towuru and his counterparts from the Railway Command , Mrs Yetunde Longe made this known on Thursday.

 

Longe  paid  a  courtesy visit to the Lagos Ports Complex (LPC) as part of  efforts to synergy and ensure adequate security of government assets and other transport infrastructure.

Speaking at the visit, host, CP Towuru expressed the command’s commitment , collaboration and  determination to support government policy on the ease of doing business, in line with the inter-modal transport system of the country.

He said  command  under his watch would continue to work round the clock to ensure adequate security on government assets  and facilities, saying the railway  connectivity into the Lagos seaport was aimed to boost trade facilitation.

 

According to him, cooperation between the two commands was key in furtherance to ensuring prosecution of some railway  cases , noting that with the rail  linkage to Apapa Port and Lilypond terminals Ijora respectively , there was need for both commands to complement each others’ operations.

“We are trying to see how the inter-modal system of transportation will fully key into government policies. It is a good visit and very soon we all shall see positive results from this collaboration,” CP Towuru assured.

Speaking on the prospects of the collaboration, CP Towuru said the visit by the Commissioner in charge of Railways would further yield positive results as time progresses , based on her wealth of knowledge in security management and intelligence gathering adding that information sharing among the commands will further strengthen their operations collectively.

On her part, CP Longe said despite the limited resources at the Command’s disposal government assets are top priority for effective policing.

The Commissioner said that there was need for the collaboration with the Port Authority Command as national assets must be secured and protected from vandals and other criminal elements.

She said the railway command is located inside host commands adding that 25 states have the presence of the peculiar command, hence the courtesy visit.

Longe said that the Minister of Transportation was working assiduously to ensure that the rail lines are protected and secured from vandals and bandits attack .
