Police Embarks On Capacity Building For Personnel Ahead Of 2023 General Elections

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Nigeria Police Force has embarked on capacity building programme for personnel on how to perform effectively and efficiently during the polls.

 

The Police in collaboration with Security Consultant and security agencies trained personnel on Election Security Management (ESEM) in Maiduguri, Borno State.

 

Declaring the training open, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, said that the training was part of the Police’s preparation for next year’s free, fair and credible elections in Borno state.

Alkali, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Garba Dugum, said that the one-day security management training targets specialized efforts to raise the capacity of policemen to meet national and inter-agency secure a credible electoral process.

Head of the Consultant and former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, enjoined the participants to interact with each other on how to overcome the challenges of conducting general elections.

 

The training with the theme: “The 2023 General Election-Enhancing National Security Capacity for a Secured and Credible Electoral Process in Nigeria,” targeted law enforcement agencies in the six geo-political zones in the country.

The participants were drawn from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the media among others at the training.

He noted that the gained knowledge could be shared with other security personnel in various police formations across the country.

 

“This will act as the standard security management template for future elections at all levels in Nigeria,” he said, adding that the document will act as a credible reference for all other security agencies and stakeholders of the electoral system.

According to him, it will stabilise the security order ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Declaring the workshop open, Governor Babagana Zulum who was represented by the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General,  Ministry of Justice, Isa Izge, said that the training could provide opportunities for security agencies to chart a new way in ensuring credible elections in the state and the country at large.
