PDP Governors Set Up Two Committees To Checkmate Constitutional Infractions, Reinvigorate Legislature.
The state governors under the aegis of the People’s Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) on Saturday constituted two committees to checkmate the constitutional excesses of the federal government in all ramifications.
This was part of the outcomes of a virtual meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum presided over by its Chairman, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Saturday.
Muhammad Bello, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Gov. Tambuwal in a statement said in this regard, the Forum has set up a five man legal committee under the leadership of Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers state is “expected to explore various infractions of the Constitution by the Federal Government including the arbitrary and illegal deductions from the Federation Account,” reads a communique signed by Gov. Tambuwal.
The Forum also set up another five-man Legislative Liaison Committee to be led by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state.
The scribe of the two committees is the Director-General of the PDP-GF, Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum.
The Wike Committee, which has as members his Benue, Oyo, Taraba and Zamfara counterparts, is also expected “to identify and coordinate legal matters affecting the Forum.
Furthermore, the committee is “expected to guide the Forum on local government, inter-state and federal government relations.”
According to the communique, the Bala Mohammed led Legislative Liaison Committee which has his counterparts in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Enugu as members, “is expected to liaise with both the national and state legislatures on legislative matters.”
It is also “expected to guide the Forum on pending Bills, including the Electoral Act Amendment and Constitution Review matters as it affects the Forum.”
