OYO STATE: Makinde Inuagurates Seven Man Committee To Resolve PDP Crisis

The Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has inaugurated a seven man steering committee to look into challenges confronting the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and reconcile aggrieved members, as part of effort to resolve the crisis rocking the party.

The committee will be chaired by Chief Dr. Saka Balogun, while others include; Chief Mutiat Ladoja, Chief Sunday Ogunlade, Chief Olayiwola Baale, Chief Jacob Adetoro, Chief Jumoke Akinjide and the state PDP chairman Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha.

The Governor urged the committee to particularly consider some members of the party whose legitimate requests and expectations had not been met as well as address various grievances and acrimony amongst party members in order to forge a united platform

Governor Makinde also noted that having spent one year in office, the people still have high expectations from his administration, adding that he was more determined to fulfill the people’s hopes and aspiration for a better Oyo state.

He said: “The task before this committee is to assist us to get to the roots of all the challenges with our party, the PDP in Oyo state.

“A failure is hard to take, but success is harder to manage because expectations were quite high. It has been one year and about 2 weeks in office in this administration and the expectations of some of our party members have not been met either rightly or wrongly. Some have legitimate requests and expectations, but some are just being used by some forces outside of our party against the party.

“So, we need to sieve the chaff from the wheat, and where our members have legitimate expectations and legitimate entitlements, I want all that to be brought out so that we can address the issue.

“So, on that note, I will want to pronounce this committee inaugurated.”

In his response, the chairman of the committee, Dr Saka Balogun, said since the Governor had admitted the various agitations in the party, the committee would duly work to justify the opportunity to serve.

According to him: “Some have legitimate actions, having waited the hard defence for 8 years during the governance of the previous administration.

“I don’t run down anybody or institution but certainly the experience of many of us and more of the masses was nothing to write about in last administration.

“So, there was a very high expectations when this government came into office, and I have said it a number of times that this government is delivering quality service. People who have been requested to come into the fold to join the Governor to administer have been people of high caliber.”
