OWA Condemns Invasion Of Ex-MD NDDC By Police Operatives

The Ogoni Welfare Association ( OWA) ,the umbrella body of Ogonis resident in Lagos State and its environ has condemned the illegal invasion of the private residence of the former interim Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development commission ( NDDC) ,Mr. Joi Nunieh by operatives of the Nigeria Police in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.

Recall that on the 16th July,2020 at about 4am,over 50 personnel of the Nigeria Police Force illegally invaded the Port Harcourt home of Mrs.Join Nunieh in a cruel and uncivilized manner raising great concern about their mission.

According to a statement signed by ,Nkpemenyie Mcdominic, Head OWA Media committee recently stressed that “Mrs.Joi Nunieh is a law citizen of this country and Daughter of Ogoni Land who have served this country meritoriously in many capacity, it is therefore rather sad and disturbing that such a war could be waged against her for committing no crime ,particularly under a democratic government.

“More disturbing about this development is that the action of the Nigeria Police against the NDDC boss who is an Ogoni tend to remind us as a people the injustices, killings and maltreatment we suffered under the military during the dark days of the “OGONI CRISIS”.

“Furthermore, we are concerned by the attempt of trying to plot Ogonis against each other, as people we must learn from our past mistakes and refused to be used as tools to destroy the course of OGONI .

The statement also applauded the Governor of Rivers State Barr. Nyesom Wike,for his timely intervention which eventually foiled the unlawful attempt to arrest or harm the former Managing Director of the NDDC.

it added that “In view of the foregoing, we call on Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the inspector general of police to commence a thorough investigation into the unfortunate incident at such an unholy hour particularly when there is no known criminal charges against her before any court, nor any petition before any anti-graft agencies.”

OWA maintained that the President must ensure that the fundamental rights of every Nigerians as enshrined in our constitution is protected at all times irrespective of who is involved.
