Okowa Inaugurates Oil Majors’ Isolation Centre, Calls For More Testing Kits

The Delta State Government on Saturday, inaugurated the newly equipped isolation centre donated by oil majors, in furtherance to curb the COVID19 spread across the state.

Recall that a 70-bed isolation centre was established at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, by the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Agip Oil and other oil majors in the region .

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa called for the provision of more test kits across the country for easier identification and detection of COVID19 cases.

The Governor who disclosed this while inaugurating an Isolation Centre donated to the Delta State Government by NNPC/Agip Joint Venture under the auspices of Oil and Gas Industry #COVID19 Medical Infrastructure in Asaba, stressed that continuous testing makes it easy to identify those affected with the virus.

“The earlier we are able to get test kits in all the states of the federation, the better, because early and continuous testing makes it easy to identify those affected and will also ensure quick contact-tracing,” Governor Okowa said.

The Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry under the leadership of the NNPC embarked on an Industry-wide collaborative intervention in recognition of the ravaging impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the critical sectors of the national economy.

The initiative is to support the ongoing Federal Government’s efforts and in collaboration with the Presidential Task Force and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to curb the pandemic.
