Ogun Indigenes Protest Over Alleged Customs Killings

Indigenes of the western region in Ogun State have protested over the alleged incessant shootings and killings in Ogun West by men and officers of the Nigeria Customs under the guise of fighting smugglers.

 

The aggrieved youths want the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun to intervene and caution the service over the alleged killings.

 

Some of the placards displayed by the aggrieved youths include: ” Enough is Enough”,Ogun Youths Walk Against Customs Killings”,”We want to say no to incessant killings by customs in Ogun West.

 

Meanwhile , The Ogun West Liberation Movement has condemned  the killings saying, “Many innocent people of Ogun West have been fell by the bullets of Customs officers while carrying out their daily legal activities.

 

 

In a statement signed by Taiwo Rasheed Faluyi, Chairman, Ogun West Liberation Movement , a copy made available to DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA exclusively, noted that this has continued unabated thus  shocking and condemnable to Ogun West Liberation Movement.

 

“Nowhere in nations where sanity prevails is extra-judicial killings allowed in the name of stopping crimes and Nigeria, a signatory to the Fundamental Human Right which include right to life should not be an exemption.

 

In as much as Ogun West Liberation Movement will not support any Ogun westerner committing crime of any nature, we will not sit down and fold arms when our people are being fell by men of the customs service.

 

The Chairman accused the service personnel of incompetence and lack of proper training to engage smugglers adding that death of innocent people shows gross ineptitude on the part of the customs men.

 

 

“The killings shows a customs service that lacks right kind of training for the duty they perform. Having to kill to stop smuggling which has been leading to the death of innocent people shows gross incompetence on the part of the Customs men.

 

“What are the uses of the different levels of the nations’ court of law if criminal elements have to be shot at in crowded town centres when they can be traced and arrested for prosecution.

 

“These killings must stop before our people takes the issue of their security against ridiculous display of incompetence by leaky Customs men into their hands before they are wiped them out of existence.”
