Ogun Govt Intensifies Dredging Operations

 

In fulfilment of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s directive to reduce flooding in Ogun state, the State Ministry of Environment has continued the dredging and desilting activities around the state.

The exercise which is ongoing simultaneously in Obasanjo hilltop road Abeokuta, Oba Erinwole, Kara, OOUTH road,Odelemo road all in Sagamu and paramount cinema road Ijebu-ode is meant to remove silts and waste in blocked drainages,canals and waterways to allow for free flow of storm water to prevent flooding.

Speaking when he went on inspection of the Ministry’s activities in Sagamu, Commissioner for Environment Hon Abiodun Abudu-Balogun said the exercise shows the determination of the state government to reduce flooding to the barest minimum in line with the mandate of the governor.

While stating that desilting will also commence in parts of Ilaro and Ota, the Commissioner called on the residents of the areas where work is ongoing to reciprocate Government’s gesture by stopping all contributory human activities affecting the flow of water and blocking drainages.

He concluded by saying that the Administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun will continue to implement impactful polices to ensure that the presence of Government is felt in every part of the State.

Contributing, the Chairman of Sagamu Local Government,. Hon Gbenga Banjo thanked the State Government for the prompt intervention and assured that the local authority will do its best to discourage people from blocking waterways with refuse.

A resident of Sagamu, Mrs Kikelomo Salam also has kind words for the State Government and urged all to keep the canals and drainage channels free from dirts.
