NYSC Delta Passes Out 2137 Corps Members From 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 Service Year

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Delta State Secretariat has passed out no fewer than 2137 corps members from the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 Service Year.

The passing out event which was a low key activity of just issuing of Discharge Certificates to those who successfully completed their programmes, which took place Thursday 16th July, 2020, at the Oshimili South LGA of Delta State was occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Briefing the press while the exercise was ongoing, the immediate past State Coordinator and current South-South Director of NYSC, Mr. Benjamin Omotade thanked God for a successful service year for the Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members, urging them not to despair by the low key passing out ceremony as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, but to braze up for what is ahead of them.

Omotade therefore, advised them to go out and distinguish themselves with the lessons learnt from the orientation camp and various programmes of the Scheme in the course of their service.

According to the Director, “It gives me joy that in spite of the uncertainties posed by Covid-19, the corps members were still able to make it to the termination point of their national youth service year.

“I am exceptionally happy because these ones were deployed during my time here as the State Coordinator.

“Today is supposed to be marked by funfair with Passing Out Parade possibly at the Stephen Keshi Stadium or at the Military Cenotaph, but to God still be all glory.

“We have been on ground irrespective of the Coronavirus pandemic; however, NYSC is ever ready to receive corps members whenever the lockdown is lifted and approvals given for the mobilization of prospective corp members to camp. We are adequately prepared with measures aimed at observing all Covid-19 protocols on resumption of Service activities.

“For the purpose of those who just passed out today, I want to advise that they take the lessons of skills learnt from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre seriously.

“The skills acquired from the Service can be their future goldmine if put to maximal utilization. The tenet of that initiative suggests that everybody should use their hands and fingers to create wealth and to be employers of labour rather than seekers of labour”, Omotade advised.

On her part, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Olutayo Samuel congratulated the corps members for successfully completing their service year to the glory of God.

She affirmed that though Covid-19 played down on the passing out ceremony; however, the Scheme had every reason to give glory to God.

The disciplinarian State Coordinator said, that of the corps members deployed to Delta State within the period under review, 2137 completed their programme successfully and were today disengaged.

She affirmed that among the corps members were those who exceptionally distinguished themselves and deserving of rewards while those who contravened the NYSC Bye-Laws would be punished.

While those that merited and received the State Coordinator’s Certificate of Commendation were three, 11 who absconded from Service would be remobilized to repeat the service year, and then 43 others would have their service year extended, ranging from two weeks to two months.

Mrs. Samuel nonetheless, urged the disengaged corps members to boldly step out and start a business of their own from lessons learnt from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, rather than earnestly searching and waiting for jobs that are nowhere.
