NSIP: FG Concludes N- Knowledge Expansion Training Nationwide

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development has concluded its three months N-Knowledge training programme in the 6 geo-political zones of the country.

The Honourable Minister Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq stated that the N-Power programme which is a major cluster of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) was designed to achieve Mr President’s goal of poverty reduction and job creation most especially as it targets the unemployed youth for competence building and gainful employment.

Farouq said that the N-Power helps young Nigerians acquire and develop life-long skill to become solution providers and entrepreneurs in their communities.

She who made the statement at the Closing Ceremony of the N-Knowledge Expansion Training programme for trainees from the North Central Zone Thursday at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria Abuja, further said that the N-Power cluster has core segments, which are (I) N-Power Volunteer Corps for unemployed graduates of tertiary institutions, (ii) N-Build for non graduate unemployed youth, (iii) N-Skill for unemployed primary school leavers and other youth with no formal education, (iv) N-Knowledge also for non-graduate unemployed youth in the ICT sector for application on Hardware, Software and Creative engagements.

Speaking further Farouq informed that the N-Knowledge programme is focused on equipping young Nigerians with relevant skills and certification to become competent workers, innovators and entrepreneurs prepared for both the domestic and global digital job market and the training is targeted at developing competencies of the youth in software development, hardware handling and application of ICT in the creative industry, all of which catalysts to mainstreaming the Nigerian youth to take advantage of the outsourcing market for software development.

Farouq assured the beneficiaries that their monthly stipends of Ten thousand naira (N10,000) for the period of nine months will commence from their first day at registration and will continue to the end of the apprenticeship period.

She thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the administration’s unwavering efforts in eradicating poverty in the country and for supporting and sustaining the National Social Investment Programme. She further informed that Mr. President had approved the expansion of the N-Power to accommodate one million youth nationwide. This she said is currently being implemented in a Batch C of the Programme where 510,000 have been initially engaged in C1 and the C2 of 490,000 is currently on-going. And in order to enlist more Nigerian youth into the programme, the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS) as approved by Mr President will further engage more youth under the N-Power programme.

The high point of the event was the symbolic presentation of Certificates and Starter packs to the beneficiaries of the Programme by the Honourable Minister.

Earlier in his Policy Remarks on NSIP, the National Coordinator of NSIP Engr. Umar B. Bindir reiterated that the Programme is to reduce poverty and vulnerability of the beneficiaries and said that at the end of attachment by the trainees they will become experts and employ others.

He advised the beneficiaries not to sell their  starter packs but to use it and establish so as to make more money.

Bindir enjoined the trainees to make the nation proud  by utilizing the knowledge acquired judiciously.

The Administrator/CEO of the PSIN, Dr Ganiyu Obatoyinbo who was represented at the event admonished the trainees to always make out time to study and rehearse what they have been taught for better performance.

In attendance at the event were Directors of the Ministry and relevant stakeholders.
