The Port Standing Task Team (PSTT) in Port Harcourt , Rivers State has disclosed that the deplorable state of the road linking the Onne seaports has affected port operations but reaffirmed commitment on the need to effect a change when it will start enforcement on the port corridors.
State Coordinator, PSTT in Port Harcourt, Mr. Glory Onojedo who stated this at a meeting held in Lagos recently, affirmed that his team would work round the clock to emulating the achievements recorded in Lagos State by the Moses Fadipe led team.
Onojedo who is also a Director, South South Zone of the Nigerian Shippers’Council (NSC), said ahead of its enforcement on the port corridors, was the need for government to fix the deplorable roads linking the port.
The coordinator lamented that the deplorable state of the corridor has affected the operations at the ports in the movement of consignment but maintained that currently activites of PSTT were effectively carried out at the quayside of the port terminals.
Similarly, he stressed that the articulated trucks were affecting smooth vehicular flow in and out the port which in turn needed urgent attention.
Though he said PSTT is still in the stage of ship monitoring and joint boarding at the port,the council’s Director adding that tremendous achievements have been recorded in that area.
According to him, Onne Port corridor needs some level of road upgrading due to the indiscriminately parking of trucks .
Onojedo noted that “Just like Apapa and Tin Can Island Port, the Rivers port has trucks lined up on the road. From Eleme junction up to Onne the story is the same, mainly because of the bad road.
“Right now we can hardly access Onne Port and it takes a minimum of one hour
He further assured that the PSTT has recorded tremendous progress in Lagos adding that the Port Harcourt team will emulate such fete recorded in Lagos.
