NPA Workers Lobby TUC, SSASCGOC Over 50% Revenue Deduction

By Roland Ekama

Workers of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Branch of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) on Wednesday, engaged the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to help kick against government’s proposed deduction of 50 percent of the agency’s annual revenue generation.

As a result, SSASCGOC in a short message to our correspondent, said that it is seeking the intervention of the Trade Union Congress as well as the national body of SSASCGOC to fight the inglorious deduction.

Comrade Akinola Bodunde, President, SSASCGOC, Maritime Branch told DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA, that the union had a meeting with TUC and SSASCGOC national body in Abuja on Wednesday in furtherance to addressing the matter.

“After a meeting with the TUC President Comrade Festus Osifo and SSASCGOC PG, Comrade Kayode Alakija in Abuja today over the issue of 50% deductions by the Federal Government. We are seriously working with Labour leadership to join us in fighting this issue.”

Recall that the group in conjunction with the junior staff cadre, Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) had taken a stand against the plan at a joint press conference in Lagos, recently.

The two unions argued that if the revenue of the agency is slashed by half, it would not be able to meet up with its statutory mandates in the port

The group therefore requested that about 30 percent of the revenue of NPA be deducted for it to be able to function maximally
