NPA: TCIPC Restates Commitment To Beef Up Security At Seaport Entry Points, Deploys Mobile Police Team

In furtherance to protect lives and properties within and around the port environment, management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has mapped out strategies with the deployment of armed mobile police team to check and monitor the influx of trucks inward the ports for effective policing.

Port Manager, Tin Can Island Port Complex TICPC, NPA, Mallam Buba Jubrin disclosed this recently when management of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) paid a working visit to his office in Lagos.

The visit by members of the union  was aimed to address issues bothering on attacks on innocent citizens by miscreants within the port premises.

The PM noted that the deployment will further check the influx of miscreants along the port corridor pointing out that other security information cannot be disclosed to achieve it purposes.

Jubrin who affirmed the port authority commitment to resolve the challenges of human influx within and outside the  premises stated that the port fencing has contributed to the drastic reduction of human and  vehicular movement adding that management is working round the clock  to end the anomalies.

According to him, mobile police team are strategically deployed within the Coconut axis with a view to search all vehicles that are expected to access the port adding that all articulated vehicles will be subjected to thorough search if need be.

He also promised to collaborate with the union to further address some of the challenges raised by the leaders, mostly as it affects safety of lives and properties at the port environs.

The Port Manager in his response to issues raised by MWUN President General also described him as a fearless labour leader whom he has so much respect for in the maritime sector, given his antecedents when the Labour union was very raw and harsh to behold.

He also noted that Com Adeyanju has brought so much innovation to the Union and its members and since then till date, he had always been in close relationship with the President -General of MWUN.

He also commended their enduring comradeship in the sector, pledging NPA’s total commitment to the union in all areas of development towards achieving a common industrial growth for the purpose of the nation’s ports in generating economic values for Nigeria.
