NPA Senior Staff To Hold Election In March, As Ya’u Sets For Retirement
The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporation and Government Owned Companies (SSACGOC), Maritime branch has fixed March 28th for an election that will usher in new executives.
President of the union, Comrade Adamu Ya’u who is set for retirement having attained retirement age, said on Tuesday in Lagos, that plans are afoot to ensure a hitch free election in Abuja.
Ya’u who is from the traffic department of NPA take over from Comrade Benson Adegbeyeni (Safety) in 2018 and is the 14th president of the union.
According to him, the presidential,National Assembly, gubernatorial and state assembly polls led to the postponement of the union’s election.
He further disclosed that a president will emerge towards the end of March noting that “We don’t have much contestants in this election and the process is on.

Even as he declined to disclose contestants ,the union boss added that:”The next president may emerge from the eastern port, Tin Can or Apapa; even our headquarters but be rest assured that the union will elect somebody within the port system.
While speaking on some of the challenges faced during the period, Comrade Ya’u expressed dissatisfaction over the dilapidated state of the Apapa Oshodi expressway in Lagos State, pointing out that ” My greatest regret in the last 12 months as leader of the union is the state of the roads to the seaports,which is still in bad shape.
“I wish that the road was fixed under my leadership.
The President further maintained that the 40th anniversary of SSACGOC put together by his administration would be the greatest achievement while in office, pointing out that his tenure was able to bring leaders of the past and present together for the purpose of brainstorming to achieve a common goal.
” It will go down in the history books that our 40 years anniversary was awesome and members of the union till date are talking about it.
