North East Governors Condole Zulum, Want FG To Apply Holistic Approach To End Insurgency

Governors of Nigeria’s North East region have condemned the massacre of rice farmers in a village in Borno State, even as they urged the federal government to apply holistic approach and new thinking to end the wanton destruction of life and property..

According to a press statement, the North East Governor’s Forum made this known during a visit to commiserate with the Government and People of Borno State on Tuesday, described the ugly incident as unacceptable.

Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State speaking on behalf of the Forum was quoted saying that the lingering crisis in the region needed a holistic approach and new thinking to end the wanton destruction of life and property.

Governor Yahaya regretted the human cost of the crisis that have continued for over a decade, warning that if it is not nibbed in the bud, its socio-economic consequences will tell on the region.

He said they are visiting to identify with their brother Governor to honour the dead and comfort the Government, families of the slain farmers and the good people of Borno State.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State and his counterparts from Taraba, Darius Ishaku, Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State formed the delegation to Maiduguri.

The Governor’s described as barbaric the Borno killings. The Governors who recently met in Yola regretted that just after their meeting, the region was greeted by this callous killings.

Responding, the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum commended the unity of purpose of the Forum, describing the visit as encouraging.

He noted the show of love and concern of the Governor’s at their time of need, saying Borno People would remain grateful.

He stated that the manner of the ugly incident was worrisome as victims were beheaded by the Insurgents.

The Governor called for a probe into the attack, appealing to citizens of the State to exercise restraint and remain law abiding.
