NNS BEECROFT Hands Over 1,575kg Of Seized Cannabis To NDLEA

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT on Thursday handed over 45 bags of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 1,575 kilograms, to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Marine Command.

The consignment was seized on July 4, 2025, when the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted two wooden boats suspected of transporting illegal substances around the Takwa Bay and Ilesha Beach axis.

According to a statement on Thursday, the suspects fled upon noticing the patrol team, but the narcotics were successfully confiscated.

Commodore Paul P. Nimmyel, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, represented by Executive Officer Captain Idongesit Udoessien, stated that the operation was part of a sustained naval effort under the leadership of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla to combat illegal maritime activities, particularly drug trafficking, within Nigeria’s coastal waters.

He emphasized the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to intensifying surveillance, patrols, and intelligence-driven missions to protect lives and property in the maritime domain.

Captain Udoessien praised the vigilance and professionalism of naval personnel and encouraged the public to assist security agencies by providing timely and credible information to enhance safety.

The seized cannabis was formally handed over to Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Emmanuel Morrison, representing NDLEA, for further investigation and appropriate action.

This operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s continuous collaboration with sister agencies to safeguard Nigeria’s waterways and uphold internal security.
