NNPP Slams Kwankwaso-Obi Ticket Talk, Describes Moves  As ‘Illusion

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed claims of one million votes from the Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano as “imaginary, deceptive, and an illusion” ahead of the 2027 elections, urging Peter Obi to steer clear of a proposed joint ticket with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.In a strongly worded statement.

The NNPP National Chairman Dr. Agbo Major in a statement criticized ongoing efforts by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to pair Obi with Kwankwaso, calling the senator a “general without troops.”

Major highlighted Kwankwaso’s loss of key allies—including Hon. Ali Madaki, Senator Sumaila Kawu, Hon. Alhassan Rurum, Hon. Rogo, Baffa Bichi, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, Prof. Alkali, and Prof. Sam Angwe—who defected to the APC over alleged “high-handedness, insincerity, arrogance, greed, betrayal of trust, and inferiority complex.

“These departures, the statement argued, have inflicted “immeasurable damage” to Kwankwaso’s influence in Kano politics. Major rejected the idea that an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance could defeat Atiku Abubakar or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, warning that any primary loss in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) should not lead them to the NNPP.Kwankwaso’s 2025 expulsion from the NNPP remains upheld by “watertight” Abia and FCT High Court judgments, which he has not challenged, the party noted.

The statement referenced a missed 2023 joint ticket opportunity under NNPP, blaming Kwankwaso’s “arrogance, greed, and inferiority complex,” and Obi’s failure to engage NNPP founder Dr. Boniface Aniebonam directly.

“Today, with Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the party’s highest-ranking elected official and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement alongside national assembly members, Major advised Obi to avoid Kwankwaso to protect the Obidient movement’s “reputation and cohesion.”

The NNPP said it positioned Yusuf as the current party leader, signaling no room for Kwankwaso’s return.
