ANLCA: How KLT Chairperson Transformed Containerised Secretariat To Befitting Apartment Within 8 Months

Chairperson of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Chapter,  Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Mrs Esther Oluwatoyin Oyeleke has explained how she transformed the chapter containerised secretariat to a befitting edifice for members .

This she disclosed on Wednesday was coming  barely eight months of emerging winner of the  chapter election .

The KLT Chapter of the association for eight years has a makeshift secretariat  within a siberia location outside the KLT Phase 2 gate.

Oyeleke who spoke with journalists said past chairmen of the KLT chapter were unable to provide a benefitting and conducive  secretariat for members in furtherance to set standards, which according to her is just a stepping stone for better things to come for members at the chapter .

 

According to her, ANLCA has gone beyond a containerised secretariat saying the association has a brand that must be protected.

 

 

She stressed the need for her to address the press to correct some of the wrong notions by some persons laying claim to the chairmanship of the chapter

 

She stated further that after being duly elected in February 2021, she has been recognised by government agencies in the chapter and has been accorded the status

 

“I am doing this press briefing becuuase I felt it’s high time I do it and that my voice should be heard

 

“I read in the news some people referring to themselves as western port members and I don’t know why they have refused to go out of ANLCA. If they had chosen another name, nobody will disturb them

 

“I read online what somebody from KLT said calling himself chairman, I want to state categorically that as far as ANLCA is concerned in KLT here, I am the chairman

 

“There is nothing they are doing in KLT command that I will not be called upon. When the ACG visited sometimes ago, I was invited by the Controller of the command and I was part of the people that welcomed her.

 

“I have also told my members to bring their grievances to my table because I don’t like confrontations, I achieve whatever I want to achieve through dialogue.”

 

Her major challenge include failure by her predecessor to handle over peacefully to her saying the person he succeeded never did such to him.

 

“There are lots of challenges because a place where you ought to be without a stress, one is still passing through stress. So, in the last couple of months, I have not found it easy but in every challenge, you become stronger.”

 

 

Speaking on 2022 projection for the association at the chapel level, the Chairperson also reaffirmed commitment to ensure training and retraining of members in the sustainability of professionalism in customs clearance and procedures in port operations.

 

Oyeleke noted that since elected in March 2020, the chapter has been thriving in manpower development for members ; with a robust working relationship with management of the Nigeria Customs Service at the command level.

 

Oyeleke who doubles as the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Estymuels Integrated Service Limited, maintained that the plans will take off early next year

 

 

 

She noted that the Tony Iju Nwabunike led association will continue to emphasize on the need for members capacity building programme adding that the chapter  would collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other relevant government agencies for training of its members in the early part of year 2022.

 

Oluwatoyin Oyeleke , said  major focus of the chapter in the incoming year will emphasize on manpower development and capacity building programmes of members in all areas of customs operations saying it is important to master the tactics and technicalities inherent in cargo clearance from the ports.

 

 

“I have gotten a lot of plans for members in the chapter and I will kick-start them by early next year

 

“I plan going into collaboration with customs to have our members as part of their trainings because you have to know the tactics of whatever you are doing. You have to learn the tricks of whatever you are doing, that is my focus.
