Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Tops Global Cargo Handling Charts for 17th Straight Year With 1.4 Billion Tons In 2025

Despite a global maritime trade slowdown and fluctuating trade policies, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China surged past 1.4 billion tons of cargo throughput in 2025, clinching its title as the world’s busiest for the 17th consecutive year.

The port also shattered records by exceeding 40 million TEUs in annual container throughput for the first time, cementing its spot as the globe’s third-largest container hub.

These feats highlight a major upgrade in its overall operations.Key infrastructure shone brightly: the Chuanshan and Meishan 10-million-TEU terminals hit full capacity, while the unique Shulanghu ore transshipment terminal— the world’s only one capable of berthing and unloading two 400,000-ton vessels at once—bolstered efficiency.

Together, they power the port’s massive throughput.By year’s end, the port linked 309 container shipping routes to over 700 ports across more than 200 countries and regions.

It handled nearly 300 cargo ships daily, earning the second-highest global port connectivity index.Overseas expansion fueled further growth, with refined logistics networks and warehouses in Germany and Dubai, plus new offices in Singapore and Japan.
