The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed reports alleging that a specific region has been barred from passport issuance.
The Service clarified that this claim grossly misrepresents ongoing government reforms aimed at modernizing passport administration.
According a statement e-Signed by the Service Public Relations Officer NIS Abuja
DCI AS Akinlabi on Friday, 7, February, 2026, explained that in reality, NIS is implementing a phased onboarding system to shift passport offices—including those in foreign missions—to a centralized production framework.
Launched in 2024, the statement noted that “this initiative boosts efficiency, integrity, and security without excluding any Nigerian citizen.
“NIS has already onboarded offices in North East and North Central states (Borno, Yobe, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau), plus 35 international stations across Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.

“The migration for the five South East states (Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo) and five more international stations (Italy, Greece, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria) is underway in the first quarter of 2026.
“A strict work-plan ensures a seamless transition that maintains delivery timelines and enhances overall efficiency.The public should ignore speculative reports that could stir unnecessary tension. NIS remains dedicated to equitable service and operational excellence in the national interest”,it stressed.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service received a donation of two operational vehicles from the German Federal Police, at the Headquarters in Abuja.
Mr. Markus Sasse, First Secretary, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany led a three member team for the handing-over ceremony, this gesture strengthens the ongoing partnership between the two institutions, enhancing the Service’s operational capabilities.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, represented by Deputy Comptroller-General, Human Resource Management Directorate, A Ayeni, expressed appreciation to the German Government for the donation. He stated that the operational vehicles will significantly enhance field mobility, improve response capabilities, and support the Service’s mandate of ensuring Border Security and effective Migration Management.
The donation further reinforces the robust bilateral relations between Nigeria and Germany, highlighting the shared commitment of both countries to border security and improved migration governance.
