Niger State To Revamp Guara Waterfalls ,Shagunu Beach To Boost Tourism

As part of efforts to make Niger State a tourist hub in the country, the state government says it is committed to the development of the Gurara Water Falls and the Shagunu Beach.

 

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Rifkatu Cidawa made this known to the press at the Government House, Minna, during a post-Exco State Executive Council meeting.

 

She said the development of the tourist sites in the state was part of efforts to ensure the diversification of the economy so as to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.

Mrs. Cidawa also stated that the state government is working hard to ensure the development of the sites so as to create job opportunities and to serve as a source of revenue for the state.

She said the state government has already engaged a South African Consultant to provide a model for the development of the Gurara Water Falls, adding that it is also working towards having a Public-Private Partnership model to develop the site.

 

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism further explained that an additional 10,000 hectares of land have been acquired to the initial 1,505 hectares of land to enable the inclusion of wild animal parks in the area.

Mrs. Cidawa disclosed that Guards and Divers have already been employed to ensure the safety of lives and property in the area.

 

Speaking on the efforts made so far at the Shagunu Beach Resort, in Agwara Local Government Area of the state, Mrs. Rifkatu Cidawa said that electrification and road construction is ongoing to make the beach a tourist site which she said will also create job opportunities for the people.
