New Era Begins As Eastern Naval Command Celebrates Leadership Transition

The Headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command hosted a grand farewell parade and Regimental Passing Out Ceremony (RPC) on Friday in honour of the outgoing Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) East, Rear Admiral SA Akinwande.

The colourful event was held at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) VICTORY Parade Ground and drew distinguished dignitaries from Cross River State and beyond.

According to a statement, the ceremony featured a parade comprising officers and men from ships and units under the Eastern Naval Command, including a guard, band, and four divisions. The parade, marked by impressive drill and discipline, included a march past in both slow and quick time.

One of the highlights was the lowering and hoisting of the Distinguished Admiralty Flags of the outgoing and incoming FOCs, symbolising the end of one era and the beginning of another.

In his farewell address, Rear Admiral Akinwande commended the officers and men for their unwavering support and dedication during his tenure. He expressed gratitude to the dignitaries present and urged personnel to extend the same commitment to the incoming FOC, Rear Admiral KC Ezete.

Rear Admiral Akinwande, the 41st Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, was lauded for executing numerous impactful projects that benefited both the Nigerian Navy and the host community. His leadership and vision, attendees noted, have left an indelible mark on the Command.

The ceremony concluded with the marching out of the guard and divisions, followed by group photographs. An RPC at the Eastern Naval Command Officers Mess capped the event, during which gifts were presented to Rear Admiral Akinwande as memorabilia for the auspicious occasion.

The event marked not only the end of an era but also the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Eastern Naval Command.
