NDLEA: Tin Can Port Command Arrests Seven Suspects , Intercepts 521.95kg Of Cannabis In Six Months,

In its relentless pursuit to eliminate the menace of drug trafficking through seaports operations, operatives of Tin Can Port Special  Command ,  National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)  on Monday, disclosed that it successful seized over 521.95kg of cannabis indica with street value of N1,774,630,000 between January and June 2023 .

The command also announced that a total of seven suspects were arrested  in connection to the seizures within six months.

Speaking to newsmen at the end of a programme put together by Tin Can Island and  Apapa Area Special Commands of NDLEA respectively , in commemoration with International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking”, Commander, Tin Can Port Command, Mohammed Aminu Abubakar pointed out that personnel under his unit are working tirelessly to combat the Illict drug.

Abubakar stated that among the drugs confiscated, cannabis indica, which is also known as colorado coming in mostly from Canada and smuggled in containerised vehicles, represents a significant proportion.

Apparently  known for its psychoactive , he affirmed that the seizures indicated the  role of NDLEA plays in the eradication of illicit trade

According to him, strategic planning by personnel has resulted to disruption of supply chains of drug traffickers , thereby protecting countless lives from the devastating consequences of drug abuse in the country.

Abubakar noted that the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign aimed at raising awareness and preventing illicit drug activities in the society, has continued to yield positive results, saying  the command has reached out to thousands of individuals through schools programme, community engagements and use of various media platforms.

The Area Commander affirmed that the command has also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Nigeria Customs Service for the purpose of intelligence and information sharing in furtherance to synchronize their operations against illicit drug traffickers using the nation’s entry points..

On his part, NDLEA’s  Commander for Apapa Special Area, Mr. Udotong Noah stated that the occasion for the day was put together by the two commands in charge of seaports operations.

Udotong said in curbing the menace of drug abuse and trafficking, all hands must be on deck to achieve reduction .

Highpoints of the event was two papers presentation by renowned speakers.

A cross section of stakeholders from terminal operators, freight forwarders, lecturers,port workers and customs were in attendance at the event held in Rockview hotel Apapa Lagos.
