NDDC Executes 10,747 Projects For 22 Years, Rivers Top List

In what can be described as self appraisal , the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has claimed to have undertaken over 10,747 projects since its inception, covering roads and bridges, water supply, rural and urban electrification, shore protection and jetties, as well as community land reclamation and buildings.

The projects , according to a statement over the weekend, are strategically conceptualised and implemented to bridge existing infrastructural gaps in the Niger Delta, in order to facilitate the sustainable regional development.

These projects include 4,151 roads and bridges, 2125 rural and urban electrification, 1,723 building projects and 642 water supply projects.

A distribution of the projects shows that are a total of 2,247 projects in Rivers State, 2,097 projects in Delta State, 1,310 projects in Akwa Ibom State, 1034 projects in Imo State and 1,033 projects in Bayelsa State, all completed and ongoing.

There are also 973 projects in Ondo State, 966 projects in Edo State, 610 projects in Abia State and 504 projects in Cross River State.

According to the Director, Corporate Affairs of the Commission, Pius Ughakpoteni, the projects are part of the interventionist agency’s “efforts at improving the living conditions of the people of the region since its inception in 2001.”
