NCMDLCA Unveils 20-Man Compliance Team To Boost Trade Facilitation

In a bid to boost trade facilitation , the National Council of Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA), has constituted a 20-man compliance committee to further checkmate sharp practices and corruption related issues in port operations.

Tagged “Trade Facilitation Enforcement ” Compliance team, the new body would synergize with sister associations in freight forwarding practice to address issues bothering clearance of cargoes from the ports.

Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday in Lagos, Chairman Board of Trustee, NCMDLCA ,Chief Rauf Ladipo stated that the newly compliance team would embark on similar roles of operations of sister associations at the ports

Ladipo said : “All we are trying to do is to make sure that things work out correctly for customs brokers and freight forwarders in the maritime sector.

“All the associations will bring their nominees together and then we will deploy them to the ports . Members of the five registered bodies will be fused together and we will move them to different ports and they will work together as instructed from the national and the centre.

The BoT Chairman reiterated that “We are not indicting CRFFN in anyway but what we are saying is that NCMDLCA is to work closely with the council and others .

He also disclosed that the council also distributed palliative items to the Association in furtherance to boost the executives performance on its operations ,urging the new team to work efficiently to effect change in freight forwarding practice of the maritime sub sector.

“Everybody just has to do the right thing to make sure that the economy grows.”

A total of 7 executives were inaugurated during the occasion as 13 others would be unveiled next week .

Also speaking , Coordinator of the compliance team, Comrade Ifeanyi Anakweze said the association would collaborate with sister associations to enforce compliance in freight forwarding practices in Nigeria.

“We have decided to work with CRFFN as the regulated body and very soon we are going to man the roads to know the various problems faced by freight agents and proffer solutions .

“We are very very ready to coordinate and synergize with all stakeholders to ensure that peace and harmony thrives on port operations,he stated.

Recall that sister associations like the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents and National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders recentiy set up their  compliance team in furtherance to tackle the bottlenecks associated with cargoes clearance processes and procedures.
