NAPTIP , Facebook Synergize To Tackle Fight Against Human Trafficking

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has entered into strategic working the social media giant facebook.

Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Dr. Fatima Waziri – Azi, said Agency has stepped up its operations with the collaboration with facebook and other global partners in order to tackle the reality of the emerging abuse of technology which has added a new dimension to the fight against human trafficking in the country.

She stated this on Monday 18th July, 2022 while declaring open a 5 Day Boot Camp organized for members of the State Task Forces on Human Trafficking organized by a consortium of development partners holding at Sandralia Hotel, Abuja.

Supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Expertise France, FIIAPP(the implementation partner for Action Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (A-TIPSOM) in collaboration with NAPTIP, the Boot camp was designed to enhance peer review and learning, document good practices, identify challenges and work towards sustainable solutions as well streamline the activities of the State Task Forces with the NAPTIP.

Dr. Fatima Waziri – Azi, who listed some of the modest achievements of the Agency within the past months which included increased prosecutions and convictions, rescue and interception of victims of human trafficking, expanded awareness creation which include the ongoing inauguration of Ant-Human Trafficking Vanguard in Federal Government owned Unit Schools across the Country as well development of several counter – trafficking policies.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Project Manager, Expertise France, Mr. Benjamin Eneanya, Ms Bertha Nvugulu, the Chief of Mission, IOM, Mr. Jose Nsang a representative of the Team Leader, FIIAPP and Mr. Oliver Stolpe, the Country Representatives of UNODC.

The programme is funded by the donations from the Kingdom of Netherlands, United States International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, The European Union and the Switzerland Government.
