NAGAFF Seeks Customs Intervention For Release Of 13 Vehicles Under Clarion Shipping Detention
- The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Office of the National Coordinator 100% Compliance Team has called on management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to compel off dock terminal operator, Clarion Shipping Terminal Limited to release a total of thirteen imported vehicles under her facilities.
The 100% Compliance team,of NAGAFF in a statement made available to our correspondent on Friday, 17th December 2021, noted that the vehicles were trapped at the off dock terminal since July,2021 for no fault of theirs adding that duty and other charges were been duly paid.
The NAGAFF team alleged that upon investigation into the matter, it was revealed that some nineteen containers were allegedly allowed to go without paying demand notice (DN) issued to them as well as not following due process.
The statement signed by Tanko Ibrahim, National Chairman 100% Compliance team, NAGAFF said“We therefore want to appeal to the CGC to prevail on the management of Clarion Shipping terminal ltd to release all our 14 vehicles as well as cause a full scale investigation to unravel the mystery about the 19 containers saga.
He also alleged that the containers diversion plot were hatched by Clarion shipping terminal and the consignee, without the knowledge of the agency.
“It baffles our association on how terminal operator can connive with a consignee to defraud the government of such a huge amount of money.
He further alleged that ” The unpaid assessments were over N8.5 million. Listed hereunder are the”C” numbers of the demand notices.”
“It is obvious from this stand point that Clarion Shipping terminal constitutes an economic risk to the Federal Government,”Tanko alleged.
