MWUN’s Comrade Maduabuchukwu Shines Brightly At ITF Regional Conference In Tanzania
The recent International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) Youth Regional Conference, held for several African member countries in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, featured Comrade Olumba Maduabuchukwu of the Seafarers Unit, Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), as the sole representative from Nigeria.
Among other participants in Tanzania were Comrade Mohamed Kaneh from Sierra Leone, Comrade Sahada Al Hassan from Ghana, and Comrade Victoria Michongwo from Malawi, among others.
The ITF workshop took place at the Ramada Wyndham Hotel in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
Reports indicate that among all participants in the Maritime Regional Young Workers’ workshop, Comrade Olumba stood out, excelling in the conference evaluations.Upon Olumba’s return from Dar Es Salaam, he was warmly welcomed by the MWUN leadership under the guidance of the Union President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi.

Bunu emphasized that young comrades in the union should be given such training opportunities, as these are critical to building a stronger union for the next generation of leaders.
He further explained that similar training sessions for young members will continue to be a regular feature within the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria.
The seasoned maritime administrator, labour activist, and veteran sailor stated that the only way to leave a lasting legacy is by engaging youthful comrades with strategic courses, trainings, workshops, and conferences such as the recent event in Tanzania.
Comrade Olumba Maduabuchukwu expressed gratitude to the union leadership for the opportunity to attend the workshop, describing the conference as an eye-opener that enriched his knowledge and allowed him to connect with other brilliant young African comrades making significant impacts in their unions across Africa.
He also praised the facilitators as wonderful, highlighting their excellence, instructiveness, intelligence, and moral integrity. He believes the lessons learned will remain indelible throughout his lifetime and bolster his efforts as a maritime labor leader.
