MWUN Unveils Divers Unit Pioneer Executives

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Diving Unit, Seamen and NIWA Branch has inaugurated its pioneer executives to pilot the affairs for the next four years.

 

The unit executives election held recently in Lagos, as Comrade Timmy Yalah emerged Chairman .

 

Other include : Comrade Orlando Shepherd as Vice Chairman elect, Comrade Collins Idudu as Treasurer; Daniel Akyleyi as Patron elect; Stanley Madubuike as secretary elect.

Meanwhile, Morrison Akingboye was elected  as Assistant Secretary ,while Stanley Madubuike emerged  Provost elect.

 

Speaking shortly after the inauguration by executives of the branch, Chairman of the unit, Comrade Timmy Yalah called on regulatory agencies to support divers in the provision of necessary equipment to boost the standard of the sub sector.

Yalah described Lagos divers as the best in Africa adding that the unit would ensure safety of lives and properties on waters whenever the unforeseen occurred at sea.

 

He stressed the need for  government to deploy divers to all legitimate jetties and port  terminals adding that there was lack of divers in such facilities, which in turn would have enhance safety in port operations.

According to him, there was need to engage government at all levels on the key roles played by the seamen, adding that the maritime sector was incomplete without the input of divers.
