MWUN Threatens To Unveil Names Of Shipping Companies, Terminal Operators Over Pension Defaults

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has vowed to shut down terminal operators and shipping companies failing to remit pension contributions for dockworkers and seafarers.

The union also maintained that failure on the part of the employers to comply to the remittance of workers pension would lead to revealing the names of the affected organisations to the public

President-General , MWUN ,Comrade Francis Bunu Abi issued the warning following reports of systemic irregularities, including halted remittances of Pension Savings Accounts (PSA) in violation of labour laws.

According to a statement over the weekend by ,Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, explained that MWUN threatens operational shutdowns of defaulting firms unless compliance is restored immediately.

He pointed out that  companies accused of withholding pension remittances and PSA payments, shortchanging workers’ entitlements will not be tolerated ,while condemning  the practice as unlawful, emphasizing zero tolerance for pension rights violations.

The labour leader who made this point known, stressed that it’s unlawful to deny workers their pensions rights either by crook or hook,;  and may not hesitate to call out these Concessionaires and Shipping Companies that have defaulted in the payment of the statutory pensions of the union members.
