MWUN Pays Last Homage To Late Comrade Ayo Ohiwereh, Honours His Legacy

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has expressed deep condolences to the family of the late Comrade Ayo Ohiwereh, whose internment took place last Saturday in London.

Though the burial ceremony was held in the United Kingdom , MWUN officials and members closely followed the event via Zoom, united in paying their respects.

According to a statement by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN,
Prior to the final rites, the Union leadership had visited the late Comrade’s family at his residence at Amuwo Odofin , Lagos, to offer their sympathies.

Comrade Bunu described the late Ohiwereh as a diligent, detail-oriented, and astute administrator who made significant contributions to the Union’s projects, particularly in advancing the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) through his exemplary management of the Maritime Affiliate Support (MAS) initiative.

Highlighting Comrade Ohiwereh’s persistence, courage, and impactful service, the MWUN President-General lauded him as a rare gem from Edo State, who held degrees from both Nigeria and London. Before his passing, Ohiwereh served with distinction at the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) in London in collaboration with MWUN.

Remembered for his magnanimity, camaraderie, and cheerful disposition, Comrade Ayo Ohiwereh leaves behind a legacy cherished by the Union. MWUN prayed that his gentle soul may rest in perfect peace.
