MWUN Officially Confirms Oniha, Two Others As Scribes

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, on Friday, 13th August 2025, confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as the substantive Secretary-General of the Union.

The confirmation of the three appointments was announced during a joint session of both the National Administrative Committee (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Union.

This was contained in a statement by Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, over the weekend.

The statement explained that after serving six months in an acting capacity the union confirmed the position officially.

Comrade Oniha, who rose through the ranks as Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) before his promotion to Deputy Secretary-General (DSG), previously combined the portfolios of Training & Research, Education, and Media before assuming his current position following the retirement of his predecessor, Comrade Felix Akingboye.

The Edo State-born Scribe of the Union holds a Master’s Degree from the prestigious University of Ibadan and previously worked as a tutor before joining the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria.

Others confirmed include Olangwe Fred Dagogo, formerly Organising Secretary, a position he held diligently for the maximum term before his promotion to General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch of the Union. Comrade Dagogo is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt.

Comrade Joseph Ekwere’s appointment was also confirmed as General Secretary of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) Branch of the Union.

He rose from the position of Computer Secretary, which he held diligently for the maximum term under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch before his current role. Ekwere holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Lagos. The three Scribes have since been congratulated by the Union.
